Registration begins Tuesday, May 28 for the Summer Reading Program.  Families and their caregivers are strongly encouraged to come into the Florence Community Library and register their children and teens.  This year’s themes are “Dig Into Reading” for children and early literacy and “Beneath the Surface” for teens.  The library will offer Reading Club along with weekly activities, a raffle, treasure hunt, snacks, and fun incentives!

Looking for something fun and cool for the kids to do this summer? Coolidge Performing Arts Center (CPAC) will be hosting a summer movie program from June 5 through July 24, 2013. The movies will run every Wednesday for only $1!

This is an outstanding way to help the Center and give your kids something to do.

Michael Madsen will coach a Memorial Day weekend class for novice photogra­phers at Boyce Thompson Arboretum in Superior. The class is limited to 10 enroll­ees. Registration is $30 for arboretum an­nual members and $39 for non-members.

The Coolidge Performing & Visual Arts Center is proud to present the first annual Spring Gala Concert featuring Sons of Orpheus, the Male Choir of Tucson. The Sons of Orpheus are a not for profit, community based choral organization, founded and directed by Professor Grayson Hirst from the University of Arizona School of Music.

The group takes their name from the legendary Greek figure named Orpheus who possessed magical powers to move living things through his voice and singing. The Sons of Orpheus have toured throughout the US and abroad. This will be their last concert in the group’s 22nd Spring Anniversary Performances.

On Saturday, April 20, 2013, you’ll get another chance to see the Beach Boys perform live as they headline the Good Life Festival at the Encanterra Country Club in San Tan Valley, Arizona.

Guided 11 a.m. walking tours of the main trail at Boyce Thompson Arbore­tum, 37615 E U.S. Highway 60 in Supe­rior, continue daily in April, but end May 1 with the onset of BTA’s summertime schedule. That’s when daily hours move to 6 a.m.-3 p.m. for May, June, July and August. Guided tours are included with daily admission of $9.

Saturday, April 13, brings the popular afternoon “Edible and Medicinal Desert Plants” walk with Apache Junction au­thor Jean Groen, leading a one-hour walk that explaining the ways desert plants fed, healed and clothed Sonoran native people for more than 1,000 years. ‘Season finale’ for this popular walk will be April 28 at 1:30 p.m. when Ethno-botanist, Choctaw Nation member and raconteur Dave Mor­ris returns as guide April 28 – and Dave re­turns June 23 when this tour moves to its 8 a.m. start time.

Heading into the 2nd annual Spring Fling event featuring the USAC Non Wing Sprint Cars, Pure Stocks, Mod Lites and Robert Horne Ford Bombers the excitement level could not be higher. Last year with 5 different winners in one of the most closely contested divisions, the USAC Sprint Cars left the fans on their feet wanting more.

The 30 lap feature will contain the likes of current points leaders Charles Davis Jr., RJ. Johnson, Josh Pelkey and Ronnie Clark all four of which won a feature at the Speedway in 2012. Davis a multi feature winner at the Speedway sets 20 points ahead of Joohnson going into Saturday nights event with less than 30 points seperating the top 4. Davis will also have a chance at tieing a USAC win record currently held by AJ Foyt.
